[ARCHIVED] Boards Appoints Kyrene Constable

PHOENIX – Today the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed a new constable for the Kyrene Justice Precinct. Ben Halloran was selected from a large pool of applicants for the position that was vacated by Kent Rini in February.

“Thank you for the vote of confidence,” Halloran told board members after the vote. “I’m excited to be back after a break from my law enforcement career.”

Halloran brings 27 years of law enforcement and corporate security experience to the precinct following six years in the US Air Force. In Maricopa County, constables serve official documents including eviction notices and orders of protection.

“I’m happy I was able to nominate a candidate with such fine qualifications,” said Supervisor Jack Sellers, District 1. “While constables are not law enforcement officers, their job can be difficult and they are an integral part of the justice system. Mr. Halloran’s 24 years with the Illinois State Police will be invaluable in this role.”

The Kyrene Justice Precinct encompasses the Ahwatukee Foothills, portions of Tempe and the Town of Guadalupe. It straddles portions of Supervisorial Districts 1 and 5. This constable position will be open in a special election in 2020 and Halloran can seek to fill the remainder of the term until the 2022 general election.

“Constables are in our communities performing important duties,” said Supervisor Steve Gallardo, District 5. “Ben Halloran’s experience shows a commitment to public service and law enforcement, and I think he’s the right person for this public role.”

“I always enjoyed working with the community and I see this opportunity as a chance to use my skill set to help people in Maricopa County,” said Halloran.
