Board Appoints LD-2 Senator

BOS-budget-2023

Phoenix - The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed a new state senator in District 2 after following a process prescribed by law.

Picking from a three-candidate list submitted by District 2 precinct committeemen, Board members voted to appoint Republican Shawnna Bolick to the open seat.  Bolick previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives.

State law gives board members the responsibility to fill legislative vacancies with certain limitations.  Once a vacancy is announced, precinct committeemen (PC) from that legislative district meet to nominate three qualified candidates.  To qualify, a person must live in the district and share the same party as the person who vacated the office. Supervisors must appoint one of three candidates submitted by PC’s.

Legislative District 2 covers a section of North Phoenix from Deer Valley to Paradise Valley.  The seat has been vacant since last month when Steve Kaiser announced his resignation.

Bolick will serve through 2024 when a new election for the seat will be held.
