Appeals & Variances

The Flood Control District cares about the health of our customers, employees, and the community. 

To that end, we are taking steps to reduce foot traffic in county buildings and request customers to conduct their business electronically.

The following options are available for customers to submit permit applications:


A Variance is a formal action that allows someone relief from the Floodplain Regulations if they can prove there is a hardship that would prohibit them from using the property for a reasonable use.

Appeal / Interpretation

An Appeal or Interpretation is a formal process to have the Floodplain Review Board decide on an interpretation of the Floodplain Regulations or review of a permit or inspection decision.

Pre-Application Meeting

A pre-application meeting is recommended prior to submitting an application for an Appeal/Interpretation or Variance. Please call (602) 506-2419. There is no fee associated with a pre-application meeting. Meetings will be held at the Flood Control District located at:

Materials, if not submitted electronically, shall be sent to the Flood Control District office to the attention of the Floodplain Administrator.
